Compress an Image to 100KB, 200KB or 500KB

Need a profile photo or application image below a strict upload limit? Choose a maximum size and compress JPEG, PNG or WebP on your device. Usefulia verifies the resulting JPEG byte size before making it available to download.

Image compressor to target size

Output: JPG. Images are processed locally; Usefulia does not upload the selected file for this conversion. Some details may be lost in compression.

How to reduce an image below a size limit

  1. Select your JPG, PNG or WebP image, up to 25 MB.
  2. Choose 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or enter a custom target in KB.
  3. Press Compress to target size. The tool tries several JPEG-quality levels and, only if necessary, reduces the image dimensions.
  4. Check the reported output size and preview. Download the JPEG and verify that your application accepts its dimensions and format.

What 100KB, 200KB and 500KB mean

A 100 KB maximum means the finished file must be at most 102,400 bytes. For 200 KB the limit is 204,800 bytes; for 500 KB it is 512,000 bytes. These are maximums, not exact sizes. Photographs with complex backgrounds are harder to compress than flat graphics of the same dimensions.

Worked example: upload a 2 MB photo to a form allowing 200 KB

Choose the image and set 200 KB. The tool first tries keeping its dimensions while reducing JPEG quality. If it remains above 204,800 bytes, it scales down width and height and encodes again. The final download is provided only when its byte size fits the limit. It may be smaller than the original in resolution, so inspect faces, printed text and fine edges before submitting.

Limitations and image privacy

This is a lossy JPEG compressor, not an image enhancer. It does not preserve animation, alpha transparency or original metadata. Very large images use browser memory; the longest output side is capped at 3,600 pixels for performance. The output is saved on your device without an image-conversion upload to our servers. Keep the original photo until you approve the result.

Frequently asked questions

Does the compressor guarantee an exact 100 KB result?

It aims to produce a JPEG no larger than your chosen limit. The output may be smaller, not exactly 100 KB. If a usable result cannot be created, it tells you rather than presenting a file over the limit.

Will a PNG with transparency stay transparent?

No. The output is JPEG, which has no transparency. Transparent pixels are placed on a white background. Keep your original PNG if you need transparency.

What happens to photo quality?

The compressor first adjusts JPEG quality. If needed, it reduces pixel dimensions. Small text and fine detail can become blurry, especially at 100 KB.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This tool uses your browser to decode, resize and encode images. The selected file is not sent to Usefulia for processing.
