Formula for salary to hourly
Hourly pay = annual gross salary ÷ (paid hours per week × paid weeks per year). To convert hourly pay to annual salary, multiply the hourly wage by paid hours each week and paid weeks in the year.
Example 1: How much is $60,000 a year per hour?
At 40 paid hours per week and 52 paid weeks per year, $60,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = approximately $28.85 per hour. Its monthly average is $5,000 before taxes and other deductions. This is an average, not an exact paycheck withholding calculation.
Example 2: How much is $25 per hour per year?
If you work 40 paid hours every week for 52 weeks, $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 gross annual pay. With only 48 paid weeks the same hourly wage produces $48,000, demonstrating why paid weeks matter.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator show take-home pay after taxes?
No. It converts gross wages, not net take-home pay. US employees can separately explore the 2026 US tax estimate tools. Actual taxes and withholding depend on your location, filing status and other circumstances.
Why does my actual monthly paycheck differ?
The monthly figure is annual gross pay divided by 12. Weekly payroll, biweekly pay periods, bonuses, overtime, vacation and unpaid time can change what you receive in an individual month.
Does the calculator account for unpaid vacation or unpaid leave?
Only if you adjust the number of paid weeks per year. It does not apply employment laws, overtime multipliers, payroll deductions, benefits or tips.
What about 37.5-hour work weeks?
Set weekly hours to 37.5. For the same annual salary, the hourly equivalent becomes higher because the total paid hours are lower.
