What is covered in this first release?
Federal standard deductions, marginal income tax rates and employee Social Security/Medicare deductions. For wage-income-tax states, the calculators provide a clearly labeled federal-only estimate until the state's calculation rules are reviewed.
The first state-wage-tax-free pilot group includes Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wyoming. Washington does not broadly tax wages, but it has a capital gains tax relevant to some other income.
How to use the calculators
- Choose the state where your income is generally taxable; residency and work locations can change the answer.
- Choose paycheck, income tax or bracket view.
- Enter annual or periodic pay, filing status and eligible federal pretax adjustments.
- Review federal tax separately from employee payroll tax. If state income tax is not calculated, do not treat the remainder as net pay.
